Thigh lift is a family of operations, not one procedure. The specific technique that fits your case — and therefore what you'll pay for it — depends on where your skin excess is (inner thigh, outer thigh, or all the way around), how much of it there is, and whether it's paired with a body lift or tummy tuck. This piece breaks down the variations, the Colombia pricing for each, and what to look for at consultation.
The four thigh lift variations
1. Mini thigh lift (inner thigh, groin scar only)
Scar limited to the groin crease. Only appropriate for limited skin laxity in the upper inner thigh. Not sufficient for post-weight-loss patients with laxity that extends down toward the knee.
Typical Colombia cost: $2,800–$4,000
2. Medial (inner) thigh lift — vertical scar
Scar runs from the groin down the inner thigh, sometimes to the knee. Handles inner-thigh skin excess from top to bottom. This is the workhorse thigh lift for post-weight-loss patients.
Typical Colombia cost: $4,000–$6,000
3. Outer (lateral) thigh lift
Scar sits at the hip/flank level, often blending into the incision of a body lift. Handles outer-thigh laxity and hip contour issues. Usually combined with body lift rather than done alone.
Typical Colombia cost: $4,500–$6,500 as a standalone; incremental cost is lower when done as part of a body lift.
4. Circumferential thigh lift
Skin excess exists all the way around the thigh. Requires the medial vertical scar plus additional lateral work — effectively combining medial and lateral thigh lifts. Reserved for significant post-massive-weight-loss cases.
Typical Colombia cost: $6,500–$9,000

Ranges include surgeon fee, anesthesia, facility, and post-op garments. Add recovery house accommodation separately.
What's in the Colombia price
Most package quotes in Colombia cover:
- Surgeon fee and anesthesiologist fee
- Operating room and facility fee (typically 2–4 hours OR time depending on technique)
- Pre-op labs, EKG for patients over 40, medical clearance
- The procedure itself
- Compression garments (thigh compression, usually 1–2 garments)
- Standard follow-up appointments
- Airport pickup, sometimes
Add separately: recovery house accommodation, lymphatic massage sessions, medications refilled after your initial supply, and any second garment when the first one loosens as swelling resolves.
Why thigh lift is more complex than it looks
The inner thigh is a technically demanding area. Two anatomic realities make it that way:
Tension. The inner thigh skin is under constant motion — walking, sitting, standing. A closure that's under too much tension will widen, hypertrophy, or in worst cases separate. Surgeons manage this by anchoring the closure to a deeper structural layer (Colles' fascia) rather than closing skin-to-skin, but the technique quality varies significantly between surgeons.
Lymphatics. The inner thigh houses lymphatic drainage that serves the leg. Aggressive resection or careless dissection can cause chronic leg swelling (lymphedema) that doesn't resolve. A surgeon who has performed a high volume of thigh lifts knows the safe planes; a surgeon doing their tenth thigh lift is more likely to make a mistake here than at their hundredth.
This is why surgeon volume matters more for thigh lift than for many other procedures. When you're evaluating a surgeon, ask specifically how many medial thigh lifts they do per year and to see before-and-after photos of thigh lift patients specifically (not generic body work).
Combining thigh lift with other procedures
Common combinations that Colombian surgeons perform in one operative session:
- Thigh lift + arm lift — the "top and bottom" combo popular with post-weight-loss patients. Total OR time typically 4–5 hours.
- Thigh lift + tummy tuck — efficient for patients whose primary concerns are abdomen and inner thigh. OR time typically 5–6 hours.
- Thigh lift as part of body lift — outer thigh scar continues the body lift incision; medial thigh work is added at the same operation.
Combinations that most careful surgeons decline: adding a full facelift or breast lift to any of the above in one operation. The additional operative time and blood loss push complication risk higher than staging warrants.
What to insist on before booking
Verify your surgeon holds SCCP (Sociedad Colombiana de Cirugía Plástica) certification — look them up in the SCCP directory. Verify hospital-level facility credentials: JCI accreditation (six Colombian hospitals hold it) is the international benchmark; ICONTEC is the Colombian national standard. Confirm your anesthesiologist is registered with ReTHUS (Colombia's national health professional registry, rethus.gov.co). These are the baseline. If a clinic hesitates to provide any of them, you are looking at the wrong clinic.
Recovery reality
| Time from surgery | What's typical |
|---|---|
| Day 0–3 | In bed with legs elevated. Sitting is uncomfortable. Compression garments continuous. |
| Week 1 | Walking short distances. Sitting for meals only. Suture removal starts around day 10–14. |
| Week 2–3 | More mobility; office work possible if you can sit for stretches. Compression continues. |
| Week 4–6 | Light exercise (walking, stationary bike). No running, no lower-body strength training. |
| Week 6–8 | Most surgeons clear lower-body exercise, gradually returning to full activity. |
| Month 3–6 | Final contour visible as swelling fully resolves. Scars entering maturation phase. |
Recovery is meaningfully more limiting than upper-body procedures because the inner thigh skin closure is under tension every time you walk. Plan for 4–6 weeks of restricted activity, and don't rush the return-to-exercise timeline — premature strain on the closure is the most common cause of scar widening.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a thigh lift or just liposuction?
If your issue is fat with skin that will retract, liposuction alone works. If your issue is loose skin (with or without underlying fat), no amount of liposuction will fix it — and doing liposuction under loose skin often makes the looseness more obvious. Skin quality is what determines which operation you need, and a surgeon evaluating you in person is the only reliable way to know.
Can the medial thigh scar be hidden in the groin only?
Only if you have limited skin excess confined to the upper inner thigh. If your excess extends below mid-thigh, you need the vertical scar down the inner thigh. Surgeons who promise groin-only scars for significant post-weight-loss laxity are either miscommunicating or planning to do an inadequate operation.
How long before I can fly home after thigh lift?
Most Colombian surgeons recommend 10–14 days minimum before international flights, with compression stockings and mobility exercises during the flight to reduce DVT risk. Shorter surgeon stays are possible but come with additional complication risk if a problem develops after you've left.
What happens if the scar widens?
Some widening is expected in vertical inner thigh scars because of tension in the area. Scar revision surgery is possible after 12–18 months if the widening is significant. Choosing a surgeon experienced with deep-layer closure (anchoring to Colles' fascia) reduces the risk.
Is thigh lift covered by insurance?
Almost never for cosmetic thigh lift. Occasionally covered for functional cases in massive weight-loss patients with documented rashes or skin infections in the excess tissue. Most patients pay out of pocket, which is the underlying reason Colombia pricing is attractive for this procedure.
